Obituary

Franklin (formerly of Mount Pleasant) – With her loving family by her side, Mrs. Ada Mae Archie peacefully transitioned at New Perspectives Senior Living in Franklin on Monday, June 16, 2025.

Born on February 25, 1919, in Lafayette County, Mississippi, Ada was the daughter of the late Octavia Hill.

Ada dedicated over 10 years of service to JI Case, working in janitorial services, and later found great joy and purpose as a foster grandmother to countless children in local daycare centers. That role, in particular, held a special place in her heart.

A woman grounded in deep faith, Ada was a devoted member of both St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church and Compassion Tabernacle United Holy Church.

She had a love for reading, crocheting, and never missed an opportunity to browse a good rummage or yard sale. Still, nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her family and friends, who were the light of her life.

Ada leaves to cherish her memory her son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Betty Archie of Racine; her daughter-in-law, Eddie Lue Pegus of Oxford, MS; and her beloved grandchildren: Bobby (Karen) Pegus, Hulet Pegues, Glenn Pegues, Clara Pegues, Mary (Greg) Pettis, all of Oxford, MS; James (Vangerl) Pegues of Troy, NY; Jerome (LaTonya Marie Drake) Hill of Palmdale, CA; Rosalyn Hill of St. Louis, MO; and Dionne Archie (Vincent) Thomas-Harper of Oak Park, IL. She also leaves two dear great-grandchildren, Lamar Pegues and Symone Archie McWhorter, along with a host of loving great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She is preceded in death by her loving sons: James H. Pegus, Willie E. Archie, and W.C. Hill, as well as her mother, Octavia Hill.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory on Monday, June 30, 2025. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of Ada's life and Homegoing service at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Bishop Lawrence Kirby and Pastor John Smith. A private interment will take place at Graceland Cemetery.
