She was born in Oxford, Mississippi on June 1,1921 to Roosevelt and Mary (nee: Stephens) Nix. Ada was the eldest of three children raised in Mississippi. On August 19, 1944, Ada married Lester Wray, Sr. and together they raised seven children. Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Put this in writing. From now on, the Lord will bless everyone who has faith in him when they die.” The Spirit answered, “Yes, they will rest from their hard work, and they will be rewarded for what they have done.”Rev24:13. Rest on Mother Ada. Thank you for the many years of laughter!

During our interactions with Ada, she consistently referred to my husband as Wann, rather than Warren. We cherished our conversations with her, and her absence will be deeply felt. There were instances when we spoke, and she was preparing for her work, which she genuinely enjoyed. We extend our love and wish her eternal peace, recognizing her as a good and faithful servant of God.

The lord called home a special lady right here growing up across the street on Superior St Mrs. Wray did not hold back and feeling or thoughts and let you know when was doing something you had no business. Besides raising her own children she raised the whole block and then some.I have so many memories with this family that there’s not enough room here to tell them all. One thing i do remember is Mrs. Wray sitting on her porch behind the two big bushes drinking her cold Kool-Aid that was made in a stainless steel pitcher made with a lot of sugar and dared you to complain about it cause the look said it all. To the Wray Family thank you much for sharing this special lady with us. God bless you all!! Happy Homecoming @ 104yrs young.

I delivered Ms. Ada’s mail when she stayed on May St. She was always so warm and I was always happy when we could stop and chat. When she moved to Liberty St I truly enjoyed her beautiful porch every year and she always returned my honk and wave. I got to meet her grandson, Hayes Ford Jr, and he gave me a horseback ride to deliver all the houses on May St, much to Ms. Ada’s amusement. Oh, oh, oh! She and I found out that we both knew a person in common! My very own sister, Sue Schmitt Schmidt worked at Moxness Products! She was a wonderful lady and I join her family in mourning her loss.

It was a joyful experience to know my great grandma Ada. My earliest memories of her are from back when she would always have a lump of snuff in her lip. I was young and she was very mysterious to me. As we both aged, I was fortunate to spend more time with her. One summer when I was still in high school, she came down and spent a week with us. I picked up KFC for her every day and we laughed at each other’s unfamiliar ways. That’s also when I fell in love with The Price Is Right. I’m grateful to have had my great grandmother in my life for so many years. Rest in peace, Grandma Ada.
