Alfred Walter Ebener, age 96, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2026.

Born in Kenosha on May 5, 1930, he was the son of the late Ernest and Martha (Ermert) Ebener. Depending upon where or when you met him, he was usually known as Wally or Al. He attended local schools, graduating from Mary D. Bradford High School and later from the DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago. A proud veteran, Alfred served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954.

On March 28, 1959, Wally was united in marriage to Jane Catherine (Meyer) Ebener. Together, they built a beautiful family and were married for 62 years until Jane entered eternal life on January 5, 2022. Through their many wonderful and challenging years together, they always strove to put family first and to provide the best possible lives for their beloved children and grandchildren.

For 40 years, Al worked as an Electronics Technician in various capacities and divisions at Delco Electronics in Oak Creek, retiring in 1996. He loved his career there and was particularly proud to have participated in the Avionics Division’s historic work designing and assembling the guidance and navigation systems for NASA’s Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo space programs—including the historic Apollo 11 moon landing.

Outside of his professional achievements, Al had a lifelong passion for sports-especially golf. Once his children were grown, and he had more free time, he began playing in multiple golf leagues each season for many decades, remarkably teeing off through his final 2025 season at age 95. He was an avid collector and enjoyed going to estate and rummage sales to hunt for coins, stamps, sports cards, and memorabilia of all sorts, but he found the most enjoyment in collecting, refurbishing, and reselling antique and used golf clubs.

Wally’s greatest joy and strength, however, was supporting his family. He loved attending his children’s sporting events and rarely missed a game, traveling near and far to cheer them on. Over the years, he also coached many of their basketball, softball, and baseball teams, and particularly enjoyed his time as a Little and Pony League baseball coach. Once the grandchildren came along, Grandpa and Grandma became permanent, supportive fixtures at all their sporting, school, church, and life events. He was a devoted, hands-on grandparent who loved hearing about every aspect of their lives and making time spent together memorable. He always had some surprise up his sleeve that made family holidays, birthday celebrations, and annual Eagle River trips even more fun!

His steady support and presence in our lives will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

He is survived by his four children, Gregory Ebener, Brian Ebener, Lisa Ashmus, and Pamela (Michael) Primmer; his eight grandchildren, Janey (Jonathan) Bukofzer, Karly Ebener, Leah (Daniel) Bollman, Melanie Ebener, Kyle (Katie) Ashmus, Brett Ashmus, Nicole Ashmus, and Blake (Claire) Primmer; and his four great-grandchildren, Adrianna Debrocke and Henry, Theo, and Jonah Bukofzer. He is further survived by his sister, Dorothy (Marvin) Miller and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents and his wife, Jane, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gilbert Ebener; his nephews, Timothy and Thomas Miller; and a sister in infancy.

A memorial service celebrating Alfred's life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, at the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home. Relatives and friends are invited to meet the family on September 25th from 3:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
