Racine- Alvin “Al” R. Johnson, 76, passed away surrounded by family and friends in Kenosha at the Washington Manor on Wednesday, August 23, 2006 following a courageous battle with cancer. A lifetime resident, Al was born in Racine on October 12, 1929 to the late Iver and Amanda Louise (nee: Erickson) Johnson. He proudly served our Country with the United States Army for three years during the Korean Conflict era – 18 of those months were served in Korea. On August 26, 1967 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fall Creek, WI, Al was united in marriage with Beverly Jean Sell. Many years ago, he was employed by Hamilton Beach. Al retired in 1992 following a long career at Massey-Ferguson. A devoted and lifetime member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, he placed his God and his family number one in his life. May he rest in peace. Surviving are his loving wife of nearly 39 years, Bev; brother, Clarence “Cunnel” (Jean) Johnson; sisters-in-law, Joan Johnson, all of Racine; Joyce (Gordon) Dehnke of Sturtevant; June Sell of Fall Creek; and Marie Sell of Jim Falls; many special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his brothers, Carl (Lil) Johnson and Walter Johnson; sister, Alice (Howard) Luce; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Otto and Lorena (nee: Behlke) Sell; and brother-in-law, Roger Sell. Funeral services will be held in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home, 4600 County Line Rd., on Monday, August 28, 2006 at 11:00 am with Rev. James F. Peters officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Sunday from 5-8 pm and on Monday from 10-11 am. In memory of Al, memorials to Zion Lutheran Church for a new sound system have been suggested. A heartfelt note of thanks to Dr. Richard N. Odders and his staff at the Wheaton Franciscan Cancer Center; and to the dedicated staff at Washington Manor, especially his nurses Heather Wright and Heike Duban, for the loving care and support that was so warmly extended to my Husband, me, and our families. God bless all of you!
