Archie King

Sep 4, 1936 – Jul 7, 2013

Racine– Archie Daniel King, age 76, peacefully departed this life on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Dan, as he was affectionately known, was born in Enterprise, MS on September 4, 1936 to Bennie and Alma (nee: Williams) King.  He moved to Racine in 1952. Dan was united in marriage to the former Jean O. Dotson on July 11, 1985.  He was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church and attended until his health prevented.

Dan had a strong work ethic and retired from J. I. Case Company after more than thirty years of employment.  He was a member of the J. I. Case Twenty Year Club.  Having an outgoing personality and love for people, he also began to work in the tavern business.  Over the years, he owned and operated the U Bar, The Oasis, and King’s Inn.  Dan was co-owner of TMC and the Top 14 Club.  He sponsored many championship sports teams throughout the years.  Among his interests, Dan enjoyed traveling, fishing, throwing darts, playing softball with the Old Timers Team, and organizing softball, darts, and fishing tournaments.  He loved his family, treasured moments spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending their games and activities.  Dan looked forward to his family reunions and was past chairperson of the Williams-Jones Family Reunion Committee.  He was playful, had a great sense of humor, was generous and kind hearted.  Dan will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish precious memories of Dan, his loving wife, Jean; sons and daughters, Darrell King, Marian (Clenton) Williams, Renee (Deniseon) King, Brian Harris, Marcus King, Carolyn (Richard) Douglas, Sherrylyn Campbell, Michael Dotson, Barbara (Ronald) Wright, Jeffrey Dotson, Kimberly (Isadore) Brooks: 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Zeno (Joyce) Bell, Donnie (Annie) Berry, Alfonso (Nancy) Berry, Clemenstine (Delphine) Berry; sisters-in-law, Rhonda Sanders, Irene King, Lynnette King, Helen Wortham; special friends, Norris Brye, Rick Dumas, James “Jimmie” Oliver, Joe Burnett , Dominic McRae, Mamie Jennings and Joe Shannon; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; twin grandchildren, Rian and Riah King; brothers, Bennie, Jr., Samuel, Sr., William, Dennis, Spencer, Sr., Rev. L.T., and Martin King; sisters, Dorothy Bradley, Helen Rice; parents-in-law, John O. and Eddie Lee Dotson.

A Homegoing Celebration will be held in St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1123 Center Street, on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 11:00 am with Pastor Richard L. Jones officiating. Viewing will be in the church on Saturday from 9-11 am. Interment will take place in West Lawn Memorial Park on Monday at 11 am.

A special note of thanks to Dr. Jayaprakash; and to the staffs of Wheaton Rehabilitation Center and Wheaton Hospice, especially Tamara, Isaac, Kathy and Denita – for the compassionate care and support given in Dan’s time of need. May God bless all of you!
