Obituary

Ashley K. Hunter, age 27, passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2017. Ashley was born in Racine, WI, on June 15, 1989, daughter of John and Allyson (nee: Barnes) Bouie.

Ashley attended Case High School and worked for Careers.  She was baptized in Jesus Name in 2011. She was a member of New Omega Baptist Church where she loved her Pastor and Church family.  If you had the pleasure of seeing Ashley you had to opportunity to see her beautiful smile as she brought a smile to the face of everyone she encountered. Through all of her battles she never complained and made the best of every situation she encountered. She enjoyed watching her brother and sister play basketball as she was always in the front row cheering them on. Attending family events were always a joy for Ashley, as she loved being with family.  Ashley enjoyed her time on this earth as she traveled all over to enjoy Disney World, family reunions, and her favorite of cheering her Slugger and Romeo on at their basketball games.  She was the oldest of the children and whatever they received she received.  She enjoyed riding with her Dad in her van and as she affectionately called her new van her "Bus".  If you were sad Ashley had the ability to lift your spirit, as she was always happy.  She always made the best of any situation.  Ashley exemplified "It's not how much time you have, it's what you do with the time you have".  She enjoyed her time on this earth.  Her parents made sure she was a part of everything everyone enjoyed.  If you know Pookie and John you know if they encountered an establishment, which did not have wheelchair access, they made sure by the time they left the State and everyone else would be aware.  They advocated for their daughter and made sure she had the best life could offer.  Ashley loved her Grandma's cooking and would sit and talk with her all day.  She was so protective of her Mom and she made sure no one interrupted her when she was sleeping.  If Ashley answered the phone and her Mom was sleeping there was nothing you could say to get her to wake her Mom.  She would tell you her Mom needed her rest she worked hard and was tired.  Ashley was truly a blessing to this family and will be missed dearly.

Ashley joins her uncles, Mike Bouie and Joe Floyd, as well as her grandfather, Robert Barnes, Sr. in heaven. She is survived by her parents, John and Allyson Bouie; her sister, Jameeka "Slugger" Bouie; her brothers, Romeo and Jaran (Ashley) Bouie; grandparents, Virginia (Floyd) Barnes, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bouie and Ms. Willie Kate Hunter; uncles and aunts: Robert Barnes, Jr.; Kiesha (Tony) Oliver-Hayes, Danette Barnes, Esther (Will) Bouie, Ethel (Keith) Pope, Robert Bouie, Jr., Pamela (Will) Lowrey, Kevin Bouie, Elizabeth (Nathan) Conver, Patricia (Robert) Broger and Zendre (Bryan) Hicks; Godmothers, Sherrie Tucker and Stacey Moore; Godsister, Masheeka Lee; very special Godniece, Kariana Allen; special cousins Travon Bunch and Alana Johnson; special aunts, Kenyatta Johnson and Lisa Walker and her special uncle, Roy Lockridge.
