Obituary

Waterford (formerly of Racine) – Barbara Ann Girton (Canfield), age 81 passed away peacefully, surrounded with the love of family, on February 14th, 2025.

Barbara was born in Racine, WI on March 9th, 1943, to the late Orville H. and Clara (nee: Jansen) Canfield. She graduated from St. Catherine's High School and shortly thereafter started her life as a newlywed, marrying Gerry Girton Sr. Together they welcomed three children and Barbara spent her time raising them locally surrounded by family.

Her career as the office manager at the local Allergy Clinic, with Dr. Dhaliwal's, was the highlight working career, although different than her dental assistant aspirations of her youth, she thrived being a part of their business of helping others until she retired. In her free time, Barbara was a woman of strong Catholic faith where she spent Thursday evenings attending prayer groups, both at St. Francis in Burlington and St. Benedict's Abbey in Benet Lake, WI. It is in the core meetings that she established profound friendships that lasted a lifetime and became her extended family. She loved to connect spiritually to others and found herself participating in numerous retreats, educating herself on her faith and being a mentor to those seeking to deepen their faith. Barbara had a true love of her family, her most prized and cherished part of her life. She was a wonderful mother, the absolute best Nana, and found every reason to spend quality time & a reason to celebrate with them in all of life's moments which she'd always be there with dessert in tow! Barbara enjoyed the act of giving in so many ways and wanted those around her to always know how special they were to her and to the world, especially if they doubted themselves, she'd be their cheerleader who would bring a smile back to them.

Barb will be deeply missed and is survived by her children, Gerry W. Girton Jr., Stacey M. Webber (Gary); son-in-law Denny Lepley, grandchildren, Cassandra (Ian) Hopkins, Austin Webber, Justin (Elizabeth) Webber, Peter Lake; great- grandchildren, Seth and Brennan Hopkins, Thea Webber, Lilly and Seamus Lake; sister-in-law, Judy Canfield; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends – too numerous to mention by name and her grand-pups- Charlie, Kevin, Lacey, Petal and Stella. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her brothers, Roger (Betty), Orville (Pat) and Richard Canfield; her daughter Julie Ann Lepley (Girton) and granddaughter Clarissa Treiber.

Services celebrating Barbara's life will be held in Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at 2:00 pm with Barb's friend, Father Kim Studwell, officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Sunday from 12:00 – 2:00 pm.

Thank you to the workers at Elder Care Cottage and St. Croix Hospice who assisted in making her final days as comfortable as possible in this life's conclusion.
