Racine – Benny J. Evans, 69, passed away in Kenosha at Woodstock Health and Rehabilitation Center on Saturday, November 24, 2007. Benny was born in St. Louis, Missouri on February 11, 1938. Benny attended Park High School, and retired from J.I. Case Company after 35 years of service as a machinist. He was a member Free and Accepted Masons, and former secretary of the Amos Lodge #111. He spent many hours volunteering at Dr. John Bryant Center, and was president of the Woodstock resident's council. Benny was passionate about all sports, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and participated in many local dart and bowling leagues. What he loved the most though were his children and grandchildren. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife JoAnn (nee: Gillmore) Evans; children, Vada Evans, Mark Evans, Joyce Evans, Kimberly Evans all of Racine, Alice Gibson of Seattle, Washington, Christine Matson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Roxann (Troy) Du Bois of Redfield, South Dakota; stepson Thomas Tucker; 17 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandson; cousin Donny (Helen) Bostick; sister-in-law Mary Moore both of Racine; and mother-in-law Helen Gillmore of Kenosha; as well as many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Evans Bishop; his daughter, Kelly Evans; his 1st wife Dorothy Moore; Brother Eddie Bishop; and brother-in-law Johnny Moore. Homegoing services will be held in the funeral home on Friday, November 30, 2007 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Fred Richmond officiating. Internment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation and viewing will be in the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5 – 8 p.m, and on Friday beginning at 10 a.m. Our deepest thanks go out to the staff at Woodstock Health and Rehabilitation Center, and to all the family and friends for your many visits to Benny, your prayers and support for him and his family.
