Racine – Carla Jean (nee: Fliess) Hempel, age 56, passed away peacefully at home late Monday evening, November 27, 2017 surrounded with the love of her family, following a courageous 9 1/2 year battle with cancer.
Carla was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin on May 4, 1961 to Thomas W. and Alice J. (nee: Skeans) Fliess, Sr. She was a 1979 graduate of St. Catherine's High School. Carla was employed as a production operator at SC Johnson for the last 29 years. Prior to this, she was an awesome waitress and fiercest cabbage cutter ever known.
She was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church and of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Racine. Among her interests, she enjoyed craft fairs, crocheting blankets, baking, and shopping. Above all, she loved and cherished spending time with her children.
Surviving are her children, Jennifer (Aaron) Alby, Christopher Goetz, Samantha Hempel, Nicholas Hempel and Thomas Hempel; father, Thomas W. Fliess, Sr.; sisters and brothers, Susan Paulus, Thomas (Cherie) Fliess, Jr.; Nancy DiBiase, Richard Fliess and Shirley (Darren) Olson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Carla was preceded in death by her mother, Alice J. Fliess; brother-in-law, George Paulus; and nephew, Joshua Smith.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 10:30 am at Saint Sebastian Catholic Church (3126 – 95 th Street in Sturtevant) with Rev. Javier Guativa officiating. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Paris, WI. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 – 8:00 pm and in the church on Saturday from 9:30 – 10:30 am.
