Carlien "Charlie"
Helen Winn
Nov 2, 1943 — Jun 14, 2024
Carlien Helen Winn, affectionately known to many as "Charlie" (after her grandfather), a beloved member of the Mount Pleasant community, passed away on June 14, 2024, at the age of 80, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on November 2, 1943, Carlien was the proud daughter of Alois Jozwiak and Louise (nee Fernette) Urbaniak.
Carlien's life was characterized by her unwavering love and commitment to her family and her passion for literature as a librarian at the Racine Public Library. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, from playing slot machines at the casino to cheering on the Wisconsin Badgers Football team at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, and cherished the memories made during family camping trips in their "Hilton on Wheels." They attended many national conventions of the National Campers and Hikers Association (NCHA).
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Carlien was known for her love of books, often getting lost in the mysteries penned by her favorite authors, such as Agatha Christie and Louise Penny. She loved to read on her Kindle and listen to stories through audio books. Her kind and nurturing nature earned her the title of matriarch within her family, a role she embraced with grace and devotion. She was a fabulous cook and her famous potato salad will be missed by many.
Carlien was the dedicated wife of Michael Winn, cherished mother to Steven and Michelle (Steven McDowell) Winn, proud grandmother of the jewel of her eye, Madison Michael McDowell, a dear sister to Patrick (Judy) Jozwiak, Michael Jozwiak, Robert Jozwiak, Edie Balistreri, Charles Urbaniak, sister-in-law, Patricia Jozwiak, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
Carlien was preceded in death by her parents, Alois Jozwiak, Louise Urbaniak, her brothers, Jeffery Jozwiak, John Jozwiak, and best friend, Eleanor Sorenson (Ele Ele).
A Mass of Christian Burial in honor of Carlien's life will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring Street, on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 11:00 am, preceded by a public viewing at 10:00 am. As a final tribute to her memory, Carlien will be laid to rest on the same day at 12:30 pm at Holy Cross Cemetery in Caledonia.
The family would like to thank Donna Perry for her devotion, friendship, and love given to our family over the past 15 years.
Although she may have left this world, Carlien's spirit and legacy will continue to live on through the lives she touched and the memories she created. Her family and friends will always remember her with love, gratitude, and fondness. Rest in peace, dear Carlien.
