Cassandra Elaine Milton, age 70, passed peacefully in her home on May 31, 2025, with her family around her. She was born in Gates, Tennessee, September 20, 1954, to the late Robert and Lula Mae Hicks. She was the oldest of the four siblings and she helped raise the youngest two. Cassandra has been married to her knight in shining armor, the sugar to her sweet tea, creamer to her coffee, rhythm to her beat, music to her soul, apple of her eye, BMW(black man working) care to her taker, lover of her life and earthly god, Rayford Leonard Milton, whom she loved and honored dearly, for forty-four years. She worked as a CNA for over fifteen plus years at Lincoln Lutheran Nursing home. She eventually left the nursing home to become a domestic engineer for her husband and children for roughly two years. She then took interest in opening her own certified in-home daycare. She worked for various other daycares as a childcare provider before retiring from RUSD after twenty-two years of service. In her leisure time, Cassandra enjoyed cooking, dancing, clowning around, giving advice, and spending time with her husband, family, and friends. Most of all, she loved to serve the Lord. She was a faithful member of the Midtown Church of Christ for many, many years.  She leaves behind her faithful husband, Rayford Milton; her loving children, Nar-Kisaj Hicks, Kiyoa (Joseph) Berryman, Untaurus Milton, Rayford Pratt and bonus son, Chauncey Thompson; her only sister, Sha-ron Hicks, sister-in-law, Elizabeth Hicks, and brother-in-law, Carl Robinson, as well as her dearly beloved friend who is just like a younger sister, Denise Blair. Her grandchildren, Donivan, Braneea, Rayford, Caleb, Ciara, Josiah, Jo’Zohn, Jonah, Malachi, Jo’Kobe, and one great-grandson, Jahmeir, born shortly after her departure.  Cassandra was preceded in death by her mother, Lula Mae Hicks; father, Robert Leon Hicks Sr.; brother, Robert Leon Hicks Jr.; sisters, Shirley Ann Hicks and Vickie Robinson, and twin grandbabies Kia-lan and Joseph Berryman Jr.  The family would like to thank Midtown Church for their prayers, calls, texts and support. None of this would have been possible without our church family. We are also grateful to Holistic Hospice for their care, and to Mae Nunn, Twyla Clark, and Denise Blair for taking out the time to sit with and care for our Mother/Wife when we were not always available. Thanks and love from the Milton, Berryman, and Hicks family. Until we meet her again, it’s only good-bye for a moment.

Cassandra’s brother Robert and I became close friends while we worked part-time at the Journal Times during our high school years. I became close to the entire family. Cassandra was a wonderful person and was always someone I enjoyed talking with. Although it is sometimes hard to say goodbye to our family and friends, it gives consolation that Cassandra and Ray were faithful and maintained a relationship with God, she had prepared for this time. Ray, I lift up you and the entire family to God in prayer, God can give you peace, comfort, and even heal our grief. Sharon you and Vickie were like little sisters when often spent time at your family. The Hicks Milton/Hicks will always mean much to me! Cherish Cassandra’s rich legacy.
