STURTEVANT – Mr. Chuck A. Snyder, 86, passed away at Villa at Lincoln Park on Sunday, February 21, 2016.

He was born in Chicago, IL on June 5, 1929, the son of the late Clarence and Ruth (nee: Lennan) Snyder.  He attended Chicago grade schools and St. Mel's Military Academy for high school.  In 1988 he married Carol Wendt at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Kenosha.

Chuck's first job was with the rail yards in Chicago.  This introduced him to his lifelong love for the railroads and traveling.  He traveled to all 50 states including a trip to Hawaii with his sister, Adele.  While living along the Mexican border in Texas he traveled to 31 of Mexico's states.

In addition to the railroad, he had a great love for poetry and music.  He started singing in the St. Mel's Glee Club.  That led to an active life of singing with various barber shop quartets. He would also work for the Barber Shop Society of America in Kenosha until he moved to San Antonio, TX in 1967.

In 1967, Chuck worked as manager of special events at the World's Fair "Hemisphere" in San Antonio, TX.  After the fair he went to work in tourism for numerous Texas Chamber of Commerce including, San Antonio, Laredo, McAllen and Hidalgo.  He received many awards for contributions to the tourism industry in Texas.

He was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church where he served on the building committee, the Sturtevant Railroad Club, the Sturtevant Fireworks Committee and his condo board.  Chuck was a loving, thoughtful and quiet man with many ideas.  He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

In addition to his wife, Carol, he is survived by his sister, Adele Clark of Seattle, WA., his brother-in-law, Leo Wendt of Kenosha; as well as many dear nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  Chuck was also preceded in death by his brother, Warren (Colette) Snyder and his sister-in-law, Jan Wendt.

Family and friends are invited to meet at St. Sebastian Catholic Church (3126 95th Street) on Thursday, February 25, 2016 for a visitation from 10-11 a.m.   The celebration of his life and funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating.  His interment at St. Casimir Cemetery in Kenosha will follow the Mass.  Memorials have been suggested to St. Sebastian Catholic Church.

Carol extends a heartfelt thank you to Leo and Chris for the endless support and her dear friends that helped with rides to the hospital and nursing home .
