Obituary

Deacon Durk C. Harris, 65, completed his earthly journey on June 5, 2020. He was born in Racine on May 4. 1955 the son of Willie Lee and Pearl Mae (nee: Gilliam) Harris.

He served his country with the U.S Navy. Deacon Harris had been employed by the Racine Unified School District until his retirement. He was a member of Searching Together Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon of the church. He was also a member of UFCW Local #152. In a crowd, he was the first person you  would want to talk to. He was a classy dresser, loved to go to church, and spend time with his family and friends. Deacon Harris will be remembered as a smooth and jazzy man by all who knew him.

Surviving are his daughter, Jacqueline Harris; grandson, Marcel Harris, both of Conroe, TX; father, Willie (Doris) Harris, of Racine; brothers, Chris (Veronica) Harris, of Mobile, AL, Brian Harris, of Racine, and Anthony (Kelly) Harris, of Charleston WV; his former wife, Lois Harris, of Conroe, TX; aunt, Coren "Co" McWhorter; of Racine. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Pearl Mae (Gilliam) Harris, brother, Duncan Harris, sister, Deborah Gilliam, and sister-in-law, Linda Harris, paternal and maternal grandparents, several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Service Details

His Memorial Homegoing Service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, June 20 th at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Willie Riley officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home on that Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Private inurnment will take place in the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
