Racine – Delores “Loris” Jean Sims, age 87, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded with the love of her children, early Friday morning, November 22, 2024.

Delores was born in Racine on June 11, 1937, to the late Joseph and Frances (nee: Harding) Westmoreland. She went to Franklin School and Washington Park High School “Class of 1956”. On August 10, 1957, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Loris was united in marriage with a wonderful young man, Morris Dean Sims, Sr. They proudly celebrated their 63rd Wedding Anniversary on August 10, 2020. Shortly after, Morris passed away on October 22, 2020.

Delores sometimes attended Gregg Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church under the leadership of Rev. David R. Green. Among her interests, she enjoyed solving word searches & crossword puzzles, and staying educated & informed regarding worldwide politics and news. She enjoyed watching political debates with her friend, Cheryl. She was an avid sports fan of the Milwaukee Bucks and GB Packers. She had a passion for interior decorating and design. Although a little on the private side, Loris was overwhelmingly charitable – having helped family, friends, and several charities – never wanting recognition or anything in return. Loris and Morris were instrumental in helping raise their grandchildren. Loris was all about her family.

Surviving are her sons, Morris (Theresa) Sims, Jr. and Brian Sims; daughters, Deborah (Alonzo) Sims-Brown and Carolyn (Rodney) Sims-Settersten; grandchildren, Jamie (Carla) Sims-Prewitt, Jason (Akpomo) Sims-Prewitt, Ashley Williams, Antonia Torres, Patrick (Kayla) Sims, Cherise First and Kimberly Basma; great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Josiah, Anayah, Dejah, Zion and Lijah Sims-Prewitt; Breanna Williams; Phiara and Phariah Sims; Aaron, Ian, and Aria Alvarez-Basma; sisters, Sandra Love and Phyllis Lott; brothers, Ronnie (Arbutus) Westmoreland, Robert (Rosalinda) Westmoreland, Lamont (Martina) Westmoreland and Thomas (Rhonda) Westmoreland; special nieces, Diane (Robert) Barkley and Theresa (Charlie) Tomlin; sister-in-law, Yvonne Sims; other nieces, nephews, cousins and special friend, Cheryl Davis.

In addition to her parents and husband, Loris was greeted in Heaven by her sister, Verneda Hausmann; infant granddaughter, Cherolynn Marie First; brothers, Herbert Westmoreland and Daryl Westmoreland; special nephew, Michael Westmoreland Sr.; brothers-in-law, Gene Hausmann, Dr. Eugene Sims and William (Wilma) Sims, Jr.; Morris’s parents, William Sims Sr. and Mary Ann Blythe; nephews, Jimmy, Carnell and William III Sims; and best friends, Ruby Marsh and Pat Czarnowski.

Homegoing services will be celebrated on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 11:00 am at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home with Rev. David R. Green officiating. Entombment will follow in Graceland Cemetery. The viewing will be at the funeral home on Saturday, December 7th, from 10:00 – 11:00 am. You may witness the service via livestream by selecting the link located above on Saturday at 11:00 am.

The children of Delores would like to thank Compassus Hospice Nurses. You all provided our mother with such tender care and dignity. A special thank you to the ICU team at Ascension Health Care, who fought hard to pull our mother through, and bring her back home to us.

Mommy I thank you for everything you and daddy did for us. You both gave us all a wonderful life. If I had this to do all over again, I would. It was an honor to care for you and protect you until the end. Letting you go was the hardest thing I ever had to do. Now you can rest eternally and forever be at peace. I love you and I miss you dearly.

Mommy, I’m really missing you like crazy. I’m so happy that both Carolyn and I kept our promise not to put neither you or daddy into a nursing home. The two of you took care of us growing up so it was an honor for us to take care of you and daddy in your golden years. We were with you through the end. Now the two of you are back together again for all eternity. You guys gave us a wonderful life with many privileges. Rest In Heavenly Peace my sweet beloved mother and father. Watch over us until the appointed time when we are reunited forever. I Love You and Miss You Mommy and Daddy 💕💕💕Debi

Today, my heart is heavy as I reflect on the passing of my grandmother, Delores Sims. Life didn’t always give us the chance to see eye to eye, and I wish I had more time to make things right.

But one thing I know for certain is that she loved me, and I loved her. That love, even through the tough moments, was always there and will stay with me forever.

Grandma, I’ll carry your lessons, your strength, and your memory with me. I hope you know how much you meant to me. Rest peacefully—you will always be in my heart.

    With love always,
