Dennis York, age 78, passed away on September 10, 2026. He was born on August 30, 1948, in Racine, Wisconsin, to Roy York and Ida (née Peterson) York.

Dennis married the love of his life, Shelli (née Palmer) York, and together they built a life centered around family, love, and countless memories.

Dennis was a hardworking and dedicated man who spent more than 30 years working as a line worker and inspector for Chrysler. After retiring, however, Dennis took on a role that meant just as much to him: becoming the family’s trusted daycare provider. Day after day, he cared for his grandchildren and cherished every opportunity he had to spend time with them. He also babysat numerous children of close friends and family over the years, becoming a familiar, dependable, and caring presence in the lives of many. Being “Gaga” was one of the greatest joys of his life.

Dennis also served as a crossing guard for 14 years. He developed genuine relationships with the children he saw each day, learning their personalities, looking out for them, and even giving many of them special nicknames. His kindness and familiar presence made him much more than simply a crossing guard to the children and families he encountered.

Dennis had many things that brought him happiness. He was a tremendous music lover with an appreciation for a wide variety of music and was well known for his great taste. He was also a devoted Wisconsin sports fan—a true diehard and superfan who enthusiastically supported his favorite teams through the good seasons and the difficult ones alike.

Dennis especially loved his dog, Babe, his beloved Bullmastiff, who held a very special place in his heart.

To many in the family, Dennis was affectionately known as “Uncle D.” He was someone people could count on, someone who enjoyed being surrounded by those he loved, and someone whose personality left a lasting impression.

Above all else, Dennis was a proud family man. He was a loving husband to Shelli, a supportive and devoted father, and an incredibly proud Gaga. His family was at the center of his life, and the love he had for them was evident in everything he did. The time he spent caring for his grandchildren, supporting his children, and sharing everyday moments with his family will remain among the memories they treasure most.

Dennis is survived by his beloved wife, Shelli York; his daughter, Devin York (Tom); his son, Dustin York; his grandchildren, Donovan, Brady, and Sullivan Dennis; his brothers, Rodger (Judy) Schaar, Bobby Highman, Chuck Highman, and Greg Highman; his sister, Joyce (Al) Smith; his brother-in-law, Mike (Elaine) Palmer; his sister-in-law, Becke (Kory) Valente; his mother-in-law, Judy Palmer; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Bruce “Pudgie” Palmer, as well as several beloved brothers and sisters.

Dennis will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his sense of humor and personality, the relationships he built throughout his life, and the genuine joy he found in being a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. His presence will be deeply missed, but the many memories he created with those he loved will continue to be cherished for years to come.
