MOUNT PLEASANT – Don Scott Hess, age 70, of Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 6, 2017.

Don was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 16, 1947. He graduated from Carl Schurz High School in 1965. On December 13, 1969 he married his high school sweetheart, Susan Weber. Together they raised two sons. They started their married life in Chicago moving to Janesville, Wisconsin in 1973 and then to Racine, Wisconsin in 1985. Don was employed by Case for 34 years, retiring in 2009.

Don enjoyed bowling, model railroading, sports, classic cars, and a stiff Rob Roy. He was a junior bowling coach at Castle Lanes for 30 years. He and Sue enjoyed attending area car shows where he loved to spend time with friends and show off his 1969 Mercury Montego convertible. A lifelong fan of Chicago sports teams, "Holy cow" was he happy to see the Cubs win the World Series. He was a man who cared deeply for others and he lived out his faith as a long-time member of Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church.

Don is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sue Hess, their two sons Scott (Holly) Hess of Racine, Michael (Jennifer Cicia) of Altamonte Springs, FL, four granddaughters Laeken, Cambell, Landrie and Allison Hess, two grandsons Michael, Jr. and Calvin Hess, his brother George (Carol) Hess, brother-in-law Frederick (Sara) Weber, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Edwin and Rose Hess and in-laws Frederick Weber and Lewis and Marion Barker.

Services will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church with visitation at 10:30 a.m and funeral services at 12:00 p.m.  Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery with the Reverend David Echelbarger presiding.

The family wishes to thank the First Responders from Mount Pleasant Police/Fire/Rescue for their valiant efforts and the staff of the St. Mary's Hospital Emergency Department for their care. Because he always saw the best in others, and we want that legacy to continue, Don's eyes were donated through the Lion's Eye Institute for Transplant. In lieu of flowers, donations to Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church are appreciated.
