Obituary

Racine – Dorothy Ann (nee: Tamm) Bakke, age 94, passed away peacefully at St. Monica's Senior Living on Wednesday, July 10, 2019.

Dorothy was born in Franksville, WI on August 1, 1924 to the late William and Ida (nee: Spang) Tamm. She graduated from St. Catherine's High School in 1942.  Dorothy was united in marriage with the love of her life, Carlton Rice, on September 15, 1943.  During her career, Dorothy worked for the Franksville Post Office and In-Sink-Erator, as well as a waitress at Kilbourn Gardens before owning & operating Franksville Specialty Company, which manufactured safety belts and udder supports for cows.

With a profound Catholic faith, Dorothy was a member of St. Peter Parish in Eagle River. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and Past-President of the BPW (Business & Professional Women). Among her interests, Dorothy enjoyed flower & vegetable gardening, sewing, knitting (especially for infants in the hospital) and praising God by faithfully attending daily Mass and praying the Rosary. Above all, Dorothy loved spending time with her entire family.

Surviving are her children, Kay (Frank) Prevatt, Nancy (Al) Noll Sr., Charles (Sharon) Rice & William (Barbara) Rice; grandchildren, George (Jara) Gillett, Tammy Steege, Jon (Terrie) Gillett, Allan Noll Jr., Charles Rice Jr., Jeffrey Rice, Christopher Rice and William (Chrystal) Rice; 6 great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, William & Ida Tamm; beloved husband, Carlton Rice; brothers, Harold (Raymel) Tamm & George (Mary Ellen) Tamm; and sisters, Florence (Lawrence) Ruetz, Geraldine (Gus) Bakke, Norma (Garry) Minikel & Sylvia (Everett) Peterson.

Visitation will be in the chapel of St. Monica's Senior Living (3920 N. Green Bay Road) on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 from 9:30 – 11:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 am in the chapel of St. Monica's Senior Living with Rev. Javier Guativa officiating. A memorial luncheon will follow. Private interment will take place in West Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Lucy Catholic Church have been suggested.

A heartfelt note of thanks to the entire staffs of St. Monica's Senior Living and Hospice Alliance for the compassionate care and support given in Dorothy's time of need. May God bless all of you!
