MOUNT PLEASANT – Douglas M. Brandies, 74, passed away at Ascension All Saints with all of his family by his side on Sunday, June 3, 2018.

He was born in Racine on October 30, 1943, the son of the late Gilbert M. and Bonita M. (nee: Boss) Brandies.  He attended Park High School. Doug proudly served his nation with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War from 1961-1966. When he returned home he met the love of his life and returned to attend adult high school and received his diploma in 1971.

On August 31, 1968 he married his true love of almost 50 years, Janice Falk at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer where they would remain lifelong members together.

Doug retired from Twin Disc in 2005 after 33 years of service. After retirement he enjoyed paint by number paintings which many he gave away and traveling throughout the United States with Jan: especially stopping at all the casinos along the way.  However, he was happiest in the company of his entire family.

In addition to Jan, Doug is survived by his sons, Douglas Michael (Sandy) Brandies of Union Grove, James John (Julie) Brandies of Racine; his grandchildren, Rebecca Lynn (Jacob Eith) Brandies, Joseph Matthew (fiancée, Claire Eschenbauch) Brandies; his step grandchildren, Brayden, Robert and Miranda Hahn; his sister, Coralee (Wayne) Benson of Haughton, LA; his brother-in-law, John Falk of Crawfordville, GA; as well as many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by five brothers; five sisters; as well as a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law in the last six months.

Family and friends are invited to meet at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer (2417 Drexel Ave.) on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 for a visitation and time to greet his family from 10:00 -11:00 a.m.   A service celebrating and honoring his life will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Harvard Stephens, Jr. officiating.  A private interment with military honors will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park.  Memorials have been suggested to Lutheran Church of the Redeemer or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

The Brandies family extends a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Bader, Dr. Niebuhr and the entire ICU and Respiratory Care staff at All Saints for the exceptional attention Doug received during the past month under their care.
