Racine – Earlene Sims, age 66, passed away at Ascension All Saints Hospital on Saturday, June 29, 2019.

Earlene was born in Shelby, Mississippi on April 5, 1953 to the late Grant and Belva (nee: Bell) Sims. She was baptized in faith at an early age at Old Mount Olivet Baptist Church. Earlene was employed as a teacher’s aid for Headstart and as a CNA at Lincoln Lutheran on Prospect Street.

A true people person, Earlene always had an “open door” policy at her home. She helped countless people get back on their feet in their time of need. She enjoyed hosting gatherings at her home; cooking – trying new recipes she had watched on cooking shows; and was known for her fingernail fashion. Above all, Earlene loved spending time with her entire family.

Surviving are her children, Earline “Wendy” Sims, Fredrick Lamar Sims and Kizzy Sims; grandchildren, Jeremiah Sims, Terra White, Terrell White and Terrivia Sims; 2 great-grandchildren, Ka’Liyah Snow and Ka’Varrionta Rhinehouse; sister, Minnie Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.

In addition to her parents, Earlene was preceded in death by her siblings, J.C., Willie, Beolar and Cora Sims; and brother-in-law, Tommie Jackson Sr.

A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 11:00 am in Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home with Rev. Willie Scott officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Viewing will be in the funeral home on Tuesday from 10-11 am.

A special note of thanks to Earlene’s caregiver, Jessica France; to Fresenius Kidney Care; and to Ascension All Saints Hospital ER & ICU. May God bless all of you!

Testimonials

March 13, 2025

Thank you so very much for the exemplary care that you provided for both our mom and dad. Your family is extremely kind and exudes much empathy towards others. You and your staff display much professionalism with great talent and attention to detail. Mom and dad were always very particular in their appearance. Mom would say, You are leaving a lasting impression of yourself with someone to remember you by. Your parents taught you boys well; be very proud of that! Love on them, as death is so very permanent.

Holly and I are officially orphans now. It is people like your family and David Huck being there for us, that bring comfort when you are going through one of the most difficult challenges life throws at you.

I thank God every day for our Ostergaard family and will always cherish the memories.

Love you,

Jody Burlingame Wagner
