Mount Pleasant – Edgar David Engler, 80, passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday, August 30, 2011.  He was born in Blue Island, Illinois on March 20, 1931, son of the late Hibbard and Esther (nee: Wathers ) Engler.  Edgar's formative years were spent in Crivitz, he moved to Milwaukee following his graduation from Wausaukee High School.  In Milwaukee he learned the skills to be an Iron Worker.

Edgar later moved to Chicago where he owned and operated his own business moving heavy machinery.  One of his major achievements in business was inventing a gantry capable of moving 600 tons, and selling them all over the world.  He had an entrepreneurial spirit owning several businesses, including a restaurant.  Upon his retirement, he took up a new challenge and succeeded in designing and building a 65' catamaran. Edgar loved everything that life offered.  He always said that he was interested in anything and everything, and believed that every day was a noteworthy experience. Basketball, boating, singing, and playing the accordion were just some of his many interests.  His generosity touched many lives; he was always quick to help anyone in need.

Edgar is survived by his wife, Bonnie Engler of Mount Pleasant; his son, David Engler of Elkhorn; his daughter, Peggy (Bryan) Hayes; grandchildren, Lauren and Mitchell Hayes, all of Louisville, Kentucky; his brother, Leon (Sue) Engler of Green Bay; as well as many nieces, nephews and good friends.  He was also preceded in death by his brother, Hibbard Engler, Jr.; and sister, Rosella Fuss.

A memorial service will be held in the funeral home at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2011 with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating.  Visitation will begin at 4:30 p.m.  Memorials to the family or to your local animal shelter have been suggested.
