Obituary

Eleanor (Boehm) Eschmann, 84, of Racine, Wisconsin, passed away August 27, 2026 at Hospice Alliance – Hospice House after a valiant fight with cancer.  She was born on October 3, 1941, in Racine, the daughter of Edmund and Orlea Boehm, and lived her entire life in Racine.

On November 25, 1961, Eleanor married the love of her life, Lawrence "Larry" Eschmann, at St. Rose Church in Racine, beginning a partnership and a family that would remain the center of her world for 66 years.

In her early years, Eleanor devoted herself to raising her three sons, and to her community, volunteering at St. Joseph's School and with the Kiltie Kadets — always busy, always involved. Once her boys were old enough, she went to work outside the home, holding jobs at Dremel, Andis Clippers, Ike's Wet Goods, and finally retiring from O&H Bakery.  Ike's was where she really shined. There she became a local favorite, known for her Bloody Marys and for the homemade meals she served to the fellas who had no one else to cook for them. That generosity was simply who she was: her door was always open to anyone who wanted a good meal, especially around the holidays. She loved to cook and bake, and was especially known and loved for her homemade bread.

When Eleanor and Larry moved to Lake Oaks in 1998, Eleanor was displeased with the state of their little in-house store.  Under her leadership and dedication, she transformed and expanded it to the facility it is today.

More than anything, Eleanor cherished bringing her family together, and nothing made her happier than hosting the family Christmas party — always good food, and always fun.

Eleanor is survived by her husband Lawrence "Larry" Eschmann; her children, Ken Eschmann, Mike (Susan) Eschmann, and Randy (Michelle) Eschmann; her grandchildren, Morgan Mitchell (Nick Valtman), Joseph (Melissa) Eschmann, Emily (Casey) Engelhart, Alex Eschmann, Jacob (Melanie) Eschmann, Allison Eschmann, and Ryan (Emma Anderson) Eschmann; her four great-grandchildren, Ian and Isaac Valtman, and Liam and Elena Eschmann; her siblings, Bonita "Bonnie" Hart and Joanne Rubel; and her in-laws, Rita Boehm, Shirley Eschmann, and William "Bill" (Lynda) Eschmann.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edmund and Orlea Boehm; her stepfather, Edward Kaminski; her siblings, August "Pete" Boehm and John (Maria) Boehm; and her in-laws; Paul Hart, Mike Rubel, Ray and Marlene Huesdens, Don Eschmann and her beloved daughter-in-law Rochelle "Shelly" Eschmann.

Private services will be at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.  The Eschmann family would like to thank Hospice Alliance, Inc. of Kenosha, Wisconsin, for the compassionate care they gave Eleanor, brightening her day and controlling her pain.   CANCER TRULY SUCKS!
