Eleanor Jean
Schroeder
Aug 16, 1927 — Jul 6, 2018
Sturtevant – Eleanor Jean (nee: Celeste) Schroeder, age 90, passed away peacefully at Ridgewood Care Center on Friday afternoon, July 6, 2018.
A lifelong resident, Eleanor was born in Sturtevant on August 16, 1927 to the late Ballisario "William" and Frances (nee: Figliolia) Celeste. She was a graduate of Saint Catherine's High School in 1947. Eleanor was employed by SC Johnson until she retired in 1992 after over 30 years of service. In her earlier years, she also served as a waitress at Hiawatha in Sturtevant.
She was a longtime member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church. Proud of her Italian heritage, Eleanor was also a member of Vittoria Colonna. Amazingly active most all of her life, Eleanor enjoyed traveling, golfing, bowling, bingo, casinos, playing cards, and socializing. Above all, she loved spending time with all of her family.
Surviving are her beloved son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Jean Schroeder of Mount Pleasant; adored grandchildren, Nicole Jean Schroeder, Jason Robert (Jessica Abulencia) Schroeder and Megan Rose (Jake) Worden; sister, Beverly Arndt; many special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends – too numerous to mention by name.
In addition to her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Rosalie (William) Jensen, Mary (Joe Sorenson) (Boze Livengood), Marco (Josephine) Celeste, Ernest (Eileen) Celeste, James (Theresa) Celeste and Josephine (Abe) Kirkorian; and brother-in-law, Richard Arndt.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 6:00 pm in Saint Sebastian Catholic Church, 3126 – 95 th Street in Sturtevant, with Rev. Javier Guativa officiating. A memorial dinner will follow. Visitation will be in St. Sebastian Church on Wednesday from 4:00 – 6:00 pm (there will be a brief pause in the visitation for the Vittoria Colonna tribute at 5:30 pm). Interment will take place at 10:00 am on Thursday morning in Calvary Cemetery, 2510 Kinzie Avenue. In memory of Eleanor, memorials to Saint Sebastian Catholic Church have been suggested.
A heartfelt note of thanks to the staff of Killarney Kourt and Ridgewood Care Center for their compassionate care and support given in Eleanor's time of need. May God bless all of you!
