Obituary

Racine – Elizabeth Leona (nee: Kuhn) Bartel "Aunt Betty", age 93, passed away peacefully at Ascension – All Saints Hospital on Sunday evening, December 3, 2017 surrounded with the love of family.

Aunt Betty was born in Yorkville on December 28, 1923 to the late Charles and Frances (nee: Hangar) Kuhn. She was a graduate of Union Grove High School. Elizabeth was united in marriage with Wilfred Bartel on November 23, 1946. She was employed for over 45 years at Styberg Engineering – retiring as assistant office manager.

Aunt Betty was a longtime member of St. Lucy Catholic Church. Years ago, she enjoyed golfing, bowling and yardwork. Although she never had children of her own…….Aunt Betty was a lovingly devoted aunt to all her nieces & nephews…..and she loved each and every one of them as her own.

Surviving are her sisters, Marianne (Earl) Mortenson and Violet (Gene) Mulenbeck; sisters-in-law, Nancy Kuhn and Wilma Kuhn Ryder; and by many dear nieces and nephews – too numerous to mention all by name. In addition to her parents, Aunt Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wilfred Bartel, on December 18, 1987; and by 3 brothers and 5 sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 8, 2017 at 11:30 am at Saint Lucy Catholic Church (3101 Drexel Avenue in Racine) with Rev. Javier Guativa officiating. Visitation will be in the church on Friday from 10:00 – 11:30 am. Interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer's Association have been suggested.

Special note of thanks to Dr. Mark DeCheck and his staff; and to Ascension – All Saints 2 nd floor (especially nurse, Nichole Haynes) for the compassionate care and support given to Aunt Betty in her time of need. May God bless all of you!
