Mrs. Millie Whitney, 84, died unexpectedly at her residence at Meadowmere Southport on Tuesday, July 21, 2009. She was born in Kenosha on May 21, 1925, the daughter of the late Michael and Rosa (nee: DeMarco) Lento. On April 17, 1948, she married the love of her life, Neil Norman Whitney at the First Methodist Church in Waukegan. He preceded her in death on April 29, 2009. Millie attended St. Mary's Lutheran Church where she also participated in the Friendly Center. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Neil, family gatherings with her sisters and brothers and being in the company of her children and grandchildren, whom she adored. Millie is survived by her children, Stephen (Charlene) Whitney of Atlanta, Ellen Janota of Kenosha; grandchildren, Jayette (Tom) Kerkman of Racine, Andrea (Claborn) Collier of Greenville, S.C.; great grandchildren, Dane and McKenna Kerkman and Xavier and Michael Collier; sister, Mary Ruffalo of Kenosha, brother, Chuck (Faye) Lento of Lake Bluff, IL, brothers-in-law, George Alan (Jean) Whitney of Eau Claire, John "Larry" Whitney of Kenosha, Jess Miller of Rice Lake, WI; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other dear relatives. Millie was also preceded in death by her sisters, Sidora (Morris) Murphy, Viola (Tom) Coleman; brothers, Frank (Theresa) Lento, John (Ruth) Lento, Sam Lento; sister-in-law, Nancy Miller and brothers-in-law, Carl Ruffalo and Howard Whitney, Jr. A service celebrating Millie's life will take place in the Draeger – Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory (corner of Hwy KR and 22nd Ave.) at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2009. There will be a visitation in the funeral home from 9-11. A private entombment will take place in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to St. Mary's Lutheran Church or to one's charity of choice. A very special thank you to the loving staff at Meadowmere Southport and to Dr. Joe Garetto for the care given to Millie and Neil these past few years. Our family will be forever grateful.
