Mount Pleasant – Emma M. Muniz, age 83, passed away peacefully, surrounded with the love of family, early Tuesday, January 28, 2025 in the comfort of her daughter’s home.
Emma was born in Mesa, AZ on April 1, 1941 to the late Kelly and Celestina (nee: Vela) Boudreaux. She graduated from William Horlick High School. On December 28, 1962 in Waukegan, IL, Emma was united in marriage with the love of her life, Joe J. Muniz. Sadly, he passed away, at the young age of 54, on February 11, 1996.
For many years, Emma was employed in sales in the major appliances department at Sears. In retirement, she served as a Racine Unified School District teaching assistant, mainly at Dr. Jones and, later, at JI Case High School.
Emma shared her gift of voice in her church choir for many years. She loved caring for others and was always giving of herself to someone in need. As a breast cancer survivor, Emma became a tireless pink paddler, who’s dragon boat team competed internationally. She was a dedicated mentor for others fighting their battles with breast cancer. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, decorating and had a flair for fashion. Quite often, Emma could be found in her kitchen cooking, always sharing meals and baked goods with others. Most importantly, she loved her family way more above herself. Grandma loved spending time with her grandkids & great-grandkids. Later in life, Emma fought a long battle with congestive heart failure and end stage kidney disease but never felt sorry for herself. With a smile on her face, she was optimistic and grateful.
Surviving are her children, Troy Muniz of Racine; Montiel (Chuck) Melcher of Franksville; and Jody (Sunday) Muniz of Racine; daughter-in-law, Patty O’Brien Psimas of Tallahassee, FL;grandchildren, Alec (Mackenzie) Muniz of Oak Creek; Mitchell Muniz of Burbank, CA and Mackenzie Muniz of Burbank, CA; honorary granddaughter, Hannah Michaud of Pleasant Prairie; great-grandsons, Cole Muniz and Hayes Muniz; other dear relatives and friends – too numerous to mention all by name. In addition to her parents and husband, Emma was preceded in death by Joe’s parents, Jesus and Nora Muniz.

Emma was a shining star who made a positive impact anywhere she went. Her radiant smile was a gift in itself. Woodbury Lane was a better place because she lived there and I was lucky to not only be her mail lady, but her friend. I’ll miss you Emma!
