G. Marie Wittemann, 85, passed away at her residence on Saturday, February 9, 2013. She was born in Racine on April 16, 1927, the daughter of the late Clement and Ruth (nee: Barth) Schmidkamp.
On June 1, 1957, in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, she was united in marriage to Robert J. Wittemann, who preceded her in death on April 8, 1996. Marie was a 1945 graduate of St. Catherine’s High School. She had been employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. for many years. Marie was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, the Catholic Women’s Club, the Ladies of Columbus, St. Mary’s Auxiliary, and the MACCW.
She is survived by her nephews, James Mitchell, Michael Mitchell, Daniel Mitchell, Steven Wittemann, niece, Lynn Kleinschmidt, sister-in-law, June Wittemann, special cousins, Marjean Flaherty, Donna Barth, Jean Reda, Marilyn Barth, Mary Ann Glassen, Dorothy Moldenauer, Laurie Carter, Sr. Christine Blommel, O. P., Joseph Hamacher, and James Hamacher, special friends, Sharon and Chris Hansen. Marie is also survived by many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Bob, Marie was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Madonna, sister, Betty Ann Schmidkamp, sister-in-law Jean Mitchell, brothers-in-law, Richard Wittemann, Rev. Paul Wittemann, and Timothy Mitchell, and nephew, David Wittemann.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be con-celebrated in St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St., at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 14th, with Rev. Terry Huebner and Rev. William Dietzler officiating. Visitation will be in the church on Thursday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu, of flowers the family suggests memorials to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church or St. Catherine’s High School Foundation.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints, the Wheaton Franciscan Home Health & Hospice and the staff of Brightstar Health Care for the compassionate care given to Marie.
