STURTEVANT – Gary D. Barney, 75, passed away at his residence on Thursday, April 17, 2015.

He was born in Battle Creek, MI on May 17, 1939, the son of Robert and Geraldine (nee: Curtis) Barney.  On July 8, 1961, he married the love of his life, Suzanne Wondergem.

Gary worked 25 years at Wisconsin Industrial Truck in Milwaukee before moving to JI Case Corporation for 11 years until his retirement.

Gary loved the outdoors.  He was an avid fisherman and hunter.  He especially treasured upland and duck hunting with his dog, Sadie.   Gary was a life member of the NRA and a proud member of the UAW.  When he wasn't outdoors he was content indoors woodworking.  Most of all, he was happiest when he was in the company of his family.

In addition to his wife, Suzanne, Gary is survived by his three children, Kathleen (Richard) Romero of Lewisville, TX, Greg Barney of Racine, Josh (Pam) Barney of Richlands, NC; his grandchildren, Megan (Chris) Carter, Elizabeth (Brock) Reames, Conrad Barber, Adrian Barney, Katlyn Barney, Garrett Barney, Shelby Barney, Jesse Barney; his great grandchildren, Lola Carter, Daisy Carter, Evelyn Mayo, Benjamin Reames, Kinley Cooper; his loving mother, Geraldine Barney of Alabama; his brother and sisters, David (Eileen) Barney of Hart, MI, Shannon (Hal) Linville, Dawn Walton both of Alabama; as well as many dear nieces and nephews.  Gary was preceded in death by his father, Robert Barney; his mother-in-law, Marilyn Gunning; his brother-in-law, Tom Wondergem; his sister-in-law, Cindy Medland; and his companion and favorite hunting partner, Sadie.

Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Thursday, April 23, 2015 for a visitation from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.  A memorial service remembering and celebrating his life will follow at 11:30 a.m.  Interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to the National Emphysema Foundation or Hospice Alliance.

The Barney family thanks the entire staff of Hospice Alliance; including his nurses, Sue and Dawn; his volunteer, Judy; and especially his aid, Jennifer for the loving and professional attention Gary received while under their care.
