Obituary

Racine – Gaynell Dyess, 73, passed away in Kenosha at Kindred Care – North on Saturday, May 31, 2014. She was born in New Albany, Mississippi on May 12, 1941, daughter of the late Lon and Annie Mae (nee: Stephens). She had been a Racine resident for most of her life.

Gaynell leaves a legacy of leadership and service to others. She served the residents of the 2nd and 3rd districts for eight terms on the Racine County Board from 1996 – 2012; and her fellow JI Case employees as a union representative for UAW local 180. She enjoyed spending time with her family, bowling, fellowshipping with friends and enjoying life.

Gaynell is survived by her children: Randie Dyess, Bobbie Dyess, and Ann Dyess-Peterson; grandchildren: Tremaine White, Quianna Bouie Randie Dyess Jr, Regina Dyess, Tiara Nicole Langston, and Armani Trenell Peterson; and eight great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her brother: Udell Rutherford; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by her brother and sister: William "W.T." Rutherford and Lavora Butler; and her former spouse: Edward Lee Dyess.

Homegoing services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Terry Ward officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Graceland Cemetery on Monday at 10:00 a.m. Memorials to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital have been suggested.
