Mount Pleasant – Gena Carol Checki, 49, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at All Saints Hospital. She was born in Racine on January 13, 1966, the daughter of James and Helen (nee: Sinsky) Checki. Following her graduation from JI Case High School, Gena went on to earn a bachelor's degree at UW-Parkside, and then a master's degree in Library Science at UW-Milwaukee.

Gena worked for a time at the Kenosha library, and did freelance writing for the Gateway Technical College newspaper. She was a quiet person who enjoyed being at home watching movies, browsing the internet, and caring for her father. She was a member at St. Lucy Catholic Church.

Gena is survived by her father, James Checki of Mt. Pleasant; brother John (Susan) Checki of League City, Texas; nephew and niece, Andrew and Rachel; uncles and aunts, George Checki of Mount Pleasant, Ronald (Christine) Checki of Warren, Michigan; Gloria Sinsky of Racine and Marilyn Checki of Franksville; as well as other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Checki uncles and aunts, Frank Sinsky; Donald and Margaret McNeese, Millie Checki, and Edward Checki.

A mass of Christian burial will be held in Racine's St. Lucy's Catholic Church (3101 Drexel Avenue) at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross cemetery in Caledonia. Visitation will begin in the church at 10:00 a.m.
