Private services, with full military honors, were held in Faithbridge Church with entombment in West Lawn Memorial Park.

George W. Smith, 98, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, September 1, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Smith was born in Rock Fish, VA on October 13, 1922, the son of the late Thomas and Isabelle (nee: Morrison) Smith.

Mr. Smith served his country for over 20 years in the U. S. Navy. On May 6, 1943, in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Beloit, he was united in marriage to Betty R. Damman. He serves as the Franksville Postmaster for over 25 years, retiring in 1985. Mr. Smith was a member of Faithbridge Church, was a Past Master of the Union Grove Masonic Lodge #288, served on the Racine County Republican Party Committee for over 10 years, the Gideons International, the Franksville Businessmen, and was active with the Franksville Boy Scouts.

Surviving are his loving wife of over 78 years, Betty; their children, George Smith Jr., of Sturtevant, Linda (Robert) Weber, of Racine, and Virginia (Christopher) Smith-Hooser, of Gurnee, IL; five grandchildren, Ryan P. Smith, Nicholas W. (Stephanie) Binetti, Kelly M. Smith, Matthew G. (Naomi) Binetti, and Richard (Casey) DeLaO; nine great grandchildren, Benny Binetti, Cora Binetti, Ashley Smith, Mia Smith, Kiley Smith, Ari Binetti, Gideon Binetti, Ronan DeLaO, and Kai DeLaO; and sister, Matti Peele of Monroe, VA. His nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive him. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Booth.
