Gerd
Weitkuhn
Aug 5, 1937 — Aug 7, 2026
Gerd Weitkuhn, age 89, passed away at his home, August 7, 2026.
Gerd was born on August 5, 1937 in Eastern Germany to Hermann and Minna Weitkuhn. In 1952, he immigrated to the United States with his family. They lived in Missouri for a short time before settling in Racine, Wisconsin. One day at the movies, he met his wife, Anita. They married on May 16, 1959. Together they started a family and were blessed with children.
Gerd worked at Western Publishing for 44 years as a book binder before retiring in 1999. Gerd loved sports, especially soccer. In his younger years, he played on a soccer team in Racine and eventually found a passion for running. He ran every day and even competed in marathons, always staying active.
He enjoyed long walks at Petrifying Springs Park with his loyal dog, Roxie. Even as he grew older, Gerd continued to make time for walks at the park. He loved spending time outside, breathing in the fresh air, and tending to the roses in his garden. Gerd cherished visits with family, enjoying conversations about anything and everything, and his face always lit up with a smile whenever his grandchildren and great grandchildren came to visit.
Gerd is survived by his wife of 67 years, Anita; his children, Christine (Ernie), Juergen (Julie), and Erika (Chris); grandchildren, Sierra (Javi), Alyssa (Logan), Savana, Noah (Emily), Luke, Issac, Jesse, and Jared; great grandchildren, Ezra, Aurelio, Arlo, Brave, and Penelope; his brother, Hans (Bridget); nieces and nephew; and his longtime friend, Gunther.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Christel.
Auf Wiedersehen.
A private Christian burial will be held at Westlawn Memorial Park.
