GERTRUDE B. WOLTER
RACINE – Mrs. Gertrude B. Wolter, 95, passed away at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation in Burlington on Sunday April 27, 2014.
She was born in Escanaba, Michigan on August 30, 1918, the daughter of the late Joseph and Lovinia (nee: Fortier) Gauthier.
During WWII, Gert proudly worked at SC Johnson and enjoyed being a majorette in the company band. Following the war, she married Ralph Wolter on December 26, 1942 in Seattle, WA. He preceded her in death after 53 years of marriage on October 11, 1995.
Gertrude was a loving, caring person and always had kind words for everyone she met. She never failed to help others who were ill. She was truly a caregiver, working at St. Mary’s physical therapy for over 20 years. Most importantly, she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She had a super sense of humor which she continued to show right up to her passing.
She enjoyed her life on Luedtke Ave. and later at Imperial Apartments where she was active in many things before moving to Kindred Nursing in Burlington. The staff at Kindred was fantastic with Gert.
Gertrude will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her family has a void in their hearts but they know she is resting in peace and love with her Lord now.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Wolter of Theresa, WI and Ronald (Sandra) Wolter of Mount Pleasant; her four grandchildren, Michael, Heather, Kelly and Joshua Wolter; as well as 3 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Lynne Wolter; four sisters, one brother and her dear friends, Ione Kruse and Mae Filbert.
In keeping with Gert’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a small, private service took place at West Lawn Memorial Park. In her memory, the family has suggested doing a kind deed for someone in remembrance and honor of Gertrude.
