~~     Gladys Panis, 78, passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2013, in Wheaton Franciscan Hospital- All Saints. She was born in Hart, MI, on December 19, 1934, the daughter of the late Moss and Eva (nee: Carey) Ance. Mrs. Panis graduated from Pentwater High School, in Pentwater, MI, and later attended Gateway Technical College.  On May 26, 1962, in St. Stanislaus Church, Ludington, MI, she was united in marriage to Melichar Panis. Mrs. Panis was employed by the Crawford Company for many years until retiring on December 30, 1999. She was a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church, where she taught CCD for 5 years. Mrs. Panis enjoyed watching all kinds of sporting events: the Packers, the Cubs, and Notre Dame. She did extensive traveling and loved donating money at the casinos. Surviving are her husband, Melichar; their daughter and family, for whom she had unconditional love, Jennifer (fiancé, Don Balchitis), Kirt, Jessica, Jenna, and Joseph  Kirt, all of Racine; sisters, Sandy (Ray) Sherven, of Bristol, IN, and Margaret Shaner, of Waterveliet, MI; foster brother, Thomas Hass, of Phoenix, AZ; a longtime and very special friend, Shirley Love, of Pentwater, MI. Her nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Amelia Barnes, Lena Horn, and Betty Chingman,; 2 brothers, Louis and Harry Ance. Her funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, December 19th, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park.
