Obituary

Racine – Greta, age 66, passed away at Ascension All Saints Hospital on Saturday March 16, 2024. She was born in Racine, Wisconsin on July 10, 1957 to the late L.C. and Catherine (nee: Puryear) Ingram. At an early age, Greta professed her faith in Christ and remained a believer until her departure from this life. She received her education in the Racine Unified School District, graduating from Washington Park High School in 1975. She is an alumnus of University of Wisconsin Parkside and Carthage College. For over 20 years, Greta faithfully served as an employee of Piggly Wiggly, having been promoted to customer service manager before medically retiring in 2006.

Greta loved her family; especially her grandchildren who were the joy of her life. Cooking for and spending time with her children and grandchildren gave her great joy. Her family often requested her cornbread dressing, chicken salad, and cheesecakes. When Greta's son Johnny married into the McGhee/Shelton family, Greta also gained a second family whom she loved dearly. Family gatherings would always end with her and Mrs. Winnie partnering up in spades to defeat everyone else in the family. Their chemistry was unmatched. While she was unable to travel as much as she desired, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of traveling to Africa. Her time there was well spent and she enjoyed talking about her trip and the artifacts she garnered. Those who know Greta are familiar with her love for shopping and the arts; especially music, fashion & design. Greta loved Wisconsin summers and was often found relaxing and enjoying concerts at Racine Animal Crackers. She enjoyed fresh flowers and spent time nurturing her plants. Greta was a generous soul who took comfort in doing for others.

Greta is survived by her fiancée and soul mate, John Williams, Sr., sons Johnny (Keshia) Williams IV, Jerrad Williams, grandchildren Za'Kiya, Za'Kerya, Za'Mariyon, & Za'Jariyon Williams; Jaemar Williams and Avery Santiago; sisters Doris Jones, Candace (Eric) Tate, and Sophina Campbell. She is further survived by her beloved maternal uncle Howard Puryear, aunt, Cora Puryear-Rayford, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. She will be especially missed by special friends Lorraine Howard, JoAnn Hattix, Sharon Flowers, and Rev Jimmie (Rita) Richmond. Greta was preceded in death by her father, L.C. Ingram; mother Catherine Ingram; brother Kenneth Ingram; sister Angela Ingram; and brother-in-love Jerry Jones.
