Racine -Hal Hampton Jr. passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018 at Ascension – All Saints Hospital in Racine, WI.  Hal Hampton Jr. was born on Christmas Day, 1944, in Jackson, Tennessee, the second child of Hal and Lala (nee: Transou) Hampton.  He joined a sister, Patricia Ann, who was a year older. This brother-sister duo enjoyed wonderful times on Merry Street.

Hal was a 1962 graduate of Merry High School. He then attended Lane College where he met his wife, Norma Jean (nee: Smith) Hampton.  He was drafted and served in The United States Army in 1966 and was honorably discharged in 1968.

After graduation, Hal and Norma started their life in Racine, Wisconsin, where they both began teaching careers with Racine Unified School District.  Hal taught at both J.I. Case and Washington Park High Schools and he retired in 2003 after more than thirty years of service.  In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, shopping and spending time with family and friends.

Hal leaves to cherish his memory, his three children, Harald T. Hampton Sr., Patricia (Carlos) Gonzalez, Marcus (Keeliah) Hampton; 13 grandchildren, Jasmine, Harald Jr., Jaylyn, Kaier, Maurice Jr., Khariana, Isaiah, Khiera, Carlos Jr., Eneidaylin, Luis, Jovanni and Isabella; 6 great-grandchildren.  Hal also leaves one sister, Dr. Patricia Brooks and her three children, Ernest II (Samone) Brooks; Hal Christopher (Jackie) Brooks and Danielle Brooks; sister-in-law, Delila (Marvin) Bush; brothers-in-law, Nathaniel (Barbara) Hicks Jr., and Clarence (Bertha) Faulkner.  In addition, he is survived by many nephews, nieces, other relatives and many lifelong friends too numerous to mention by name.

Hal was preceded in death by his parents; his wife's parents; his wife of forty-three years, Norma Hampton; brothers-in-law, Jerry L. Ross, Sr. and Dr. Ernest Brooks Sr., and his nephew Willie Jo Snipes Jr.

He will be remembered for his outgoing personality and his giving spirit.  His most prized roles were as a father, and especially when he became "Granddaddy", which came with his special daily duties of picking up, dropping off and anything else that involved his grandchildren.

He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of His Life will be held on Friday, December 7, 2018, 12:00 p.m., in the chapel of Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home.  Visitation will be in the chapel from 11:00am until the time of the service.   Interment will take place at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
