Obituary

Racine, WI – Harold "Gene" Barker was born September 29, 1946 to the late Nathaniel and Sadie Blanche (nee:  Pitt) Barker Sr. in Racine, Wisconsin. On March 6, 2021 Gene transitioned to eternal life.

Gene as he was fondly called by family and friends graduated from Washington Park High School in 1964.  Upon graduation he was drafted in the United States Army and received a Good Conduct Medal, Rifle Sharp Shooter Medal, National Defense Service Medal and a Vietnam Service Medal.  Gene was discharged on May 9, 1968 after three years of service.

Gene was employed by S. C. Johnson for 32 years as a production operator.  He retired in 1997.  He was later employed by Racine Unified School District as a bus driver.  Gene enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing cards, listening to oldies, sports, and traveling.  He also had a passion for cars and motorcycles and enjoyed wearing fashionable clothes and jewelry.

Gene leaves to cherish his memory two sons Darnell Barker and Tirwann Barker both of Racine, Wisconsin; five grandchildren Javeda Barker, Javaya Barker, LaToya Barker, Jasmine Walker and Tirawann Barker Jr.  great-grandchildren, three brothers Nathaniel Barker Jr. (Jerlene) of Racine, Wisconsin, Jesse Barker of Sydney, Australia and Cecil (Gwendolyn) of Phoenix, Arizona and sister-in-law Carma Barker of Houston, Texas.  He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.  Special friend Debra Carter and childhood friend Bobby Bueno.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel and Sadie Barker, Sr., daughter Jeannette Barker, sisters Harrietta Barker (twin) and Blondella Barker; three brothers, Roland Barker, Jr., Autrey Barker Sr., and Kalvin Barker, Sr.

The Celebration of His Life will be held on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 11:00am in the chapel of Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home, 4600 County Line Rd., Racine, WI. Visitation will be held in the chapel from 10:00am until the time of service. Interment will take place in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.

Service Details
