Irvin James
Burman
Jun 8, 1930 — Mar 15, 2014
Racine – Irvin J. Burman, 83, received the promise of eternal life on March 15, 2014. He was born in Morrison, IL, on June 8, 1930, son of Tony and Addie (nee: DeGroot) Burman.
He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Martha DerHovsepian, on June 9, 1956, at St. Mesrob Armenian Church in Racine.
Irvin faithfully served his country with the United States Air Force. He was an accountant for Western Publishing until his retirement. Irvin and Martha were members of Pentecost Lutheran Church for many years. He was a lover of music and enjoyed playing big band and jazz on his saxophone and clarinet. He and Martha spent their honeymoon in Greenwich Village, New York. They saw such musical greats as Ella Fitzgerald and Count Basie perform live. Irvin also loved bicycling and sometimes would be gone for days at a time on long distance bicycle trips around the state. Irvin was a car enthusiast for his entire life. He stole Martha's heart with his James Dean looks and Porsche back in the 50's. He was a man with a big heart and loved to volunteer his time to charities or friends who needed a simple helping hand. Above all, Irvin was a family man and treasured the time that he spent with his family. He will be dearly missed.
Irvin leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of over 57 years, Martha Burman of Racine; children, Cathy (Tim) Darsey of San Diego, Michael (Patty) Burman of Racine, Robert (Micki) Burman of Raymond; grandchildren, Jessica (Josh) Carter, Scott (Allison) Darsey, Peter Burman, and Elizabeth Burman. He is preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Addie.
A celebration of Irvin's life will take place on Friday, March 21, 2014, 11:00am, at Pentecost Lutheran Church, 2213 Coolidge Avenue, with Rev. Luke Jacob officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00am until the time of the service. A private interment will take place at Graceland Cemetery.
