James Leonard Herman, age 87, passed away peacefully at his home in Crivitz, WI, on Friday, February 28 ^th , 2025, after a short battle with cancer.  James was born in Superior, WI on June 25, 1937 to the late Margaret (McCauley) and Benjamin Herman.  Jim grew up in Racine, WI, one of eight children.  Jim went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps from 1957 until 1960.  He worked for the City of Racine for 22 years, retiring in 1996, and then relocating to Crivitz.

Jim enjoyed the peace and serenity of northern Wisconsin.  He loved being out amongst nature, especially kayaking, working around his home and he spent many hours driving the back roads, just enjoying the scenery.  Jim was a craftsman and created many wood burnings that he lovingly gifted to friends and family.  He could be found every morning at the Sportsmans Café coffee clutch; this group of friends truly became his second family.   Other than his six children and many grandchildren, Jim was most proud of his almost 40 years of sobriety.  Jim's infectious smile and incredible attitude touched many people and will be truly missed.

He is survived by his daughter Tammie (Dave) Nelson of Clearwater, FL, sons Benjamin and Robby of Racine, WI and son Tod (Jenny) Herman of Crivitz, WI; his grandchildren, Joe, Tim and Don (Jessie) Halbur, Amanda Roushia Barnes, Summer and Cheyenne Roushia, Michael (Iris) Halbur,  Trevor Nelson, Melinda (Brett) Thompson, Shashauna Herman, Paige and Kelvin (Sophia) Keigher, Daniel Herman, Matthew and Brenna Herman; as well 20 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by one brother, Jerry (Lois) Herman and special friend, Pauline Jeffers.

Along with his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his daughters, Debra Halbur and Dody Roushia, his grandson Cody Herman, also his siblings, Joyce Herman, Janet (James) Swanson, Judy (Jerry) O'Brien, Joanne Favro, Joe Herman, Jeff (Renee) Herman as well as former wife Ruth (Murphy) Herman.

Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf funeral home on Wednesday, March 19 ^th , 2025 for a visitation and time to meet with his family from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m., concluding with military honors.  Burial will take place on Thursday, March 20 ^th , 11 a.m., at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, WI.  Memorials have been suggested to Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin.
