Obituary

Venice, FL (formerly of Racine) – James R. Larsen; age 84; passed away at Venice Hospice House in Florida on Saturday, October 10, 2015.

Jim was born in Racine on October 9, 1931, beloved son of the late William and Magdalen V. (nee: Horton) Larsen. He was a graduate of Washington Park High School "Class of 1950". Jim retired from S.C. Johnson Wax after 34 years of service, where he headed up their payroll department. He was a member of the Johnson Mutual Benefit Association board of directors and also served as president of that board. Jim also served as president of the S.C. Johnson retiree activity committee.

After Jim's retirement from S.C. Johnson Wax, he worked part-time as financial manager of Christensen & Lee Insurance – Racine and Valeri Agency – Kenosha. He loved the business environment. Jim was awarded the emeritus life member of the Institute of Management Accounting upon his retirement and was a member for over 25 years. Jim served on the Green Ridge Condominiums Board of Directors – where he was Chairman for two years. He was also a Big Brother for many years – serving disadvantaged boys as their mentor.

Jim was a longtime member of St. Lucy Catholic Church where he faithfully served as a 4:00 Mass usher and took great pride in assisting the handicapped at church. Always willing to help others, one of Jim's greatest joys was caring for his parents for most of his life. He was an avid golfer and fisherman.

In 2004, Jim purchased a home in Venice, FL. He enjoyed it so much….that in 2005, Jim became a full-time resident of Florida.

Surviving are his sister-in-law, Shirley Larsen of Grand Junction, CO; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, William and Magdalen Larsen; brothers, Richard, William, Norb and Howard Larsen; sisters, Margaret Todish and LaVerne French; and special niece, Nancy Larsen Beatty.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Avenue, on Friday, October 30, 2015 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Visitation will in the church on Friday from 12:00 noon – 1:00 pm. Jim has been cremated and his remains will be buried next to his parents, infant brother and sister at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Lucy School or for Mass intentions have been suggested.
