James Douglas Poulsen, 84, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 21, 2026 at St. Monica's Senior Living, Racine, WI.

He was born in Racine on February 10, 1942.  Jim was an outstanding athlete and had a significant impact at St. Catherine's High School.  In basketball he earned All-Conference, All-City and in 1960 was selected to the National All-Tournament team.  Jim also excelled in golf. His junior and senior years he was selected to the State All-Tournament golf team and in 1960 they were undefeated.  Jim was inducted into St. Catherine's Hall of Fame in 2004.

Upon graduation Jim attended Marquette University where he played varsity basketball for 3 years as a Marquette Warrior.  In 1963 their team made it to the semi-final round in the National Invitational Tournament in Madison Square Garden, NYC.  Jim received his bachelor's degree in finance. He served his country as a second lieutenant in the Wisconsin National Guard.  Jim first worked at American Bank & Trust Co. in Racine. He then was a stockbroker at Dean Witter and in 1993 was a financial advisor at Robert W. Baird before retiring in 1997.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, S. Elmer and Hazel (nee Roeker) Poulsen.  He is survived by his brother Fr. Thomas Poulsen, O.P. (St. Pius V Priory, Chicago), several cousins and many dear friends who were great blessings in his life.

Jim was a dedicated supporter of Men of Christ apostolate.  He was also involved with the Jaycees, Knights of Columbus, Pro-Life Wisconsin, FOCUS and many other organizations.  Jim especially enjoyed coaching youth basketball as he believed strongly in the importance of mentoring the upcoming generations.

Jim was a kind, generous man whose daily life was truly guided by his deep faith.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon, Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Ave., Racine, presided by Fr. Craig Richter.  A rosary service will be held at 9:30 am. Visitation will be held at the church 10:00-11:45 am.

The friends and family of Jim are profoundly grateful for the wonderful and compassionate care he received at St. Monica's.
