Obituary

Racine – Janice A. Duford, age 83, passed away under the compassionate care of Hospice Alliance, Inc. at Brookside Care Center in Kenosha on Tuesday afternoon,  April 22, 2025.

Janice was born, along with her twin sister Janet, in Milwaukee, WI on November 26, 1941 to the late Herman and Florence (nee: Weber) Nagel. She was a 1959 graduate of Cudahy High School and went on to earn a teaching certificate from Racine / Kenosha Teachers College in 1961. On September 22, 1962 in Resurrection Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, she was united in marriage with her husband, Sherman "Sherm" Duford, who preceded her in death on December 17, 2020.

During her working career, Janice was employed in the office at Bucyrus-Erie, Meier Mfg, Foran Spice & Dana, as well as a stenographer at the Milwaukee County Courthouse. Janice & Sherm were faithful members of Epiphany Lutheran Church in Racine, now known as Water of Life Lutheran Church – Racine Campus. Among their interests, Janice & Sherm enjoyed casinos, antiques, square dancing & traveling.

Surviving are son, Charles "Chuck" (Mindy) Duford of Kenosha; grandsons, Max (Sarah) Duford of Sherrill, NY and Serhij (Jessie) Duford of Waukesha; great-grandchildren, William Duford, Elliana Duford & Olesya Duford; brothers-in-law, George Siegel and James (Lou) Duford; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Janice was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Marshall Duford; twin sister, Janet (Thomas) Siettmann; sister, Florence Ann Siegel; brother-in-law, Ted (Myrna) Duford; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Joseph) Szalay and Ida Mae (Dan) Straszewski; and by Sherm's parents,  Wallace and Eva (nee: Burr) Duford.

Memorial service celebrating Janice's life will be held at Water of Life Lutheran Church – Racine Campus (2921 Olive Street in Racine) on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at 11:00 am with Rev. Michael Zarling officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday, May 13 th , from 10-11 am. In memory of Janice, memorials may be made to Hospice Alliance, Inc.
