Obituary

Janice "Jan" Halvorsen of Mount Pleasant passed away peacefully at her residence on Saturday April 27 th , 2024, with her family by her side.

Jan was born in Augusta, WI on November 22, 1939. The daughter of Waltemer and Julia (Coakley) Sapp. She was raised in a small two room cabin on a farm near Spooner, WI. As a teenager Jan moved to Eau Claire, WI and graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1957.

On February 28, 1959, Jan married Marvin Halvorsen. They moved to Kenosha, WI and raised three daughters. Jan and Marvin ran a small income tax service out of their home for many years. In 1975 Jan co-founded Accurate Tax of Racine and Kenosha. Relying on the strong work ethic she learned from her parents, Jan put her heart and soul into providing personalized service to her clients. She can count many who have been loyal clients for 40 years. Jan also enjoyed loyal co-workers who have been with Accurate Tax for many years as well. Upon her retirement Jan's granddaughter is continuing the business.

Jan spent many years caring and providing a home for her mother until her mother's death in 2013. Family has always been a priority of Jan's. She took pride in their accomplishments and was there for support in times of need. The title of Matriarch is one she relished.

Jan attended St. Mary's Lutheran Church and then Lord of Life Lutheran Church. She was active in church life and supported many charities as well.

Going up north to the Wolf River area to the family's "Haven" was something she loved. She was so proud of her "She Shed" her son-in-law built. Phoenix and Dublin were her cherished dogs who gave her loyal company for years.

Jan was blessed to have traveled many places around the world including Japan (twice), Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, Ireland, and Israel. Taking 12 members of her family to Ireland which included her 95 year old mother was a precious experience for all.

Jan is survived by her daughters: Melanie (Mike) Gentry, Julie (Bill) Chase, Son-in-Law John O'Connell. Grandchildren: Daniel (Stephanie) O'Connell, Aaren (Bea Bogarelli) O'Connell, Ashley (Kacy) Kliment, Eric (Sasha) O'Connell, Ryann (Peter) Braun, Jensen (Daemyn Hamilton) Wohlgemuth, and Ben (Brooke) Chase. Step Granddaughters Brandi McMahon and Michelle Gentry. Great Grandchildren Ari, Rowyn, Harriet, Winston, Killian, Blaire, and Drexel. Along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
