Jean Kozak

May 18, 1922 – Nov 23, 2013

~~Racine – Jean Kozak, 91, received the promise of eternal life on Saturday, November 23, 2013, at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints.  She was born in Chicago, IL, on May 18, 1922, daughter of the late Alex and Anna (nee: Barcik) Prokopowicz.

She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Adolph Kozak, on September 9, 1940.  Adolph preceded her in death on June 5, 2005.
Jean graduated from Steinmetz High School in Chicago, IL, in 1940.  After their marriage, Adolph and Jean moved to Wisconsin to begin a life of farming.  Jean also worked for Western Publishing as a data entry clerk for 13 years before she retired.  She was a member of St. Sebastian Parish since the time that they moved to Wisconsin.  Jean lived life with a sparkle in her eye and completely adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Her happiest times were when the family was all together.  Jean will be dearly missed.

Jean leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Eileen Kaplan of Racine, Diane (Dan) Maddern of Kenosha; son-in-law, Ray Kaplan of Racine; grandchildren, Beth (Nick) Becker of Racine, Jennifer  Kaplan (fiance', Scott Henderson) of Racine, Steven (Kathy) Kaplan of Oak Creek, Edward Maddern of Washington D.C., Jeffrey (Kelly) Maddern of Waukesha; great-grandchildren, Connor Becker, Seth Kaplan, Taryn Kaplan, Maxwell Henderson, Kennedy Henderson, Chloe Henderson, Kamryn Maddern, Cooper Maddern; sister, Helen (Joseph) Szczeblowski of Massachusetts; sister-in-law, Evelyn Prokop of Illinois; special cousin, Ted Koziol of Chicago, IL; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jean is preceded in death by her siblings, Al Prokop, and Olga and Leo, both of whom died at a young age.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 2, 2013, 11:00am, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 3126 95th Street, Sturtevant, with Rev. Domenic Roscioli officiating.  Visitation will take place on Sunday, December 1, 2013, at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, 4600 County Line Road, Racine, from 4:00pm until 6:00pm.  Visitation will continue at church on Monday from 10:00am until the time of the Mass.  Burial will follow the Mass on Monday at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park in Kenosha.  The family has suggested memorials to St. Sebastian’s Parish or to the charity of your choice.

The family would like to extend a “Thank You” to Dr. Lisa Simonds and her staff at Wheaton Franciscan Medical Group in Union Grove for the special care that they gave to Jean over the years.
