Obituary

Joan Cicona, 90, of Racine, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at Harvest Home Memory Care on Monday, September 14, 2026, with her loving husband of 69 years, George, by her side.

Joan was born on May 11, 1936, in Racine, Wisconsin, to Floyd and Virginia (nee: Peters) Taylor. She married her high school sweetheart, George, on May 18, 1957, beginning a loving marriage that spanned nearly seven decades.

Joan devoted her life to her family as a loving wife and homemaker. She took great pride in creating a warm and welcoming home and caring for the people she loved. Joan was a protective mother who wanted only the best for her children. She cherished the many adventures she shared with George and always enjoyed coming home to be with her family.

When George started his own successful tool and die business, Tru-Tool, Joan was there supporting him behind the scenes. She helped in the many ways needed to support the business while continuing to care for their home and family. Her support and partnership were an important part of the life they built together.

George and Joan spent their retirement years in The Villages, Florida, where they enjoyed doing what they loved most—golfing the winter away. Their years in Florida gave them the opportunity to spend more time together, enjoy the game they both loved, and create many wonderful memories during their retirement.

Joan was an avid golfer and a talented athlete. She won many golf tournaments throughout the years and proudly achieved three hole-in-ones. She was also an excellent seamstress, cook, and bowler. Whether she was behind a sewing machine, preparing a meal for her family, or enjoying time on the golf course or bowling lanes, Joan brought dedication and enthusiasm to everything she did.

Joan devoted many years to 4-H, supporting the projects and interests of her four children while also teaching, encouraging, and guiding other young people. Her commitment to youth reflected her generous spirit and desire to help others learn, grow, and succeed.

Joan’s faith was an important part of her life. She attended Holy Communion Lutheran Church in her youth and later worshipped at St. Sebastian's Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Dover, and St. Paul's Catholic Church in The Villages, FL. She supported her churches by fulfilling many duties and serving wherever she was needed. Most importantly, Joan made it a priority to raise her children in the faith, passing along the values and beliefs that were important to her.

Joan will be remembered for her giving heart, kindness, devotion to her family, and the warmth she brought to those around her. She lived a full and active life, leaving behind countless memories and a legacy of love, faith, family, and service.

She is survived by her beloved husband, George, and her children, Cheryl (Richard) Witek, Lynn (Michael) Baumgartner, and James (Wendy) Cicona.

Joan and George were blessed with nine grandchildren: Jeremy Witek, Christopher Witek, Cory Witek, Alyssa Lopez, Rebecca Andersen, Kevin Cicona, Michelle Cicona, Aaron Cicona, and Calvin Cicona. She was further blessed with 12 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her sisters, Nancy Weist, Susan Taylor, Patricia (Gordon) Johnson, and Judy Taylor.

Joan was preceded in death by her son, Michael Cicona; granddaughter, Jennifer Witek; her parents, Floyd and Virginia Taylor; brothers, Edward Taylor and Michael Taylor; and sister, Beverly Thomack.

Joan’s greatest legacy is the love she gave to her family and the many lives she touched through her kindness, faith, encouragement, and service. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by George, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
