Racine – Joe Lee Wray, age 66, passed away peacefully at Sheridan Nursing Home in Kenosha on Friday, August 11, 2017.
He was born in New Albany, Mississippi on July 24, 1951 to Lester Wray, Sr. and Ada (nee: Nix) Wray. A 1969 graduate of William Horlick High School, Joe faithfully served our country with the United States Navy from 1969-73 during the Vietnam War. He was employed by AMC / Chrysler. Joe had a special place in his heart for dogs, motorcycles, cars – especially Pontiac Trans Ams and fishing.
Surviving are his beloved mother, Ada Wray; son, Stevie Perkins of Danville, IL; daughter, LaVonda Perkins-Cobb of Racine; grandchildren, Nikolas L. Cobb and Syniah L. Cobb, both of Racine; Jadyn L. Perkins and Jari L. Perkins, both of Waterloo, Iowa; brothers, Lester (Margie) Wray, Jr. and Douglas (Nicolet) Wray of Racine; sisters, Jannie Wray of Herndon, VA and Pamela Wray of Racine; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, Lester Wray, Sr.; and brothers, Hayes Ford, Sr. and Charles Wray.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 11:00 am at Greater Mount Eagle Baptist Church, 929 State Street, with Rev. Stevie L. Perkins officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 10:00 – 11:00 am.
