John Blakey

      John Dabney “JD” Blakey, 92, departed this life to be with the Lord on September 28, 2014. He was born in Ruckersville, Virginia on June 25, 1922, son of the late Edward and Rebecca (nee: Gordon) Blakey. John served with honor in the US Army during WWII. He had been a Racine resident since 1986, and worked as a master mechanic at AMC/Chrysler in Kenosha. JD was also a well-known driver at Anything Goes Limo Service.
      He is survived by his children, Joyce Blakey in New Jersey, and Benjamin Cole in Virginia; grandchildren, Symphony Rosario, Jacqueline Garretson, and Dennis Garretson; great-grandchildren, Dashon Lloyd, Myles Rosario, and Amira Lloyd; and his sister, Barbara Massie in Virginia. He is further survived by his loving companion, Ruth Healy of Racine; and her children, Lloyd Wainwright, Allen B. Wainwright, Valarie Albritton, and Sylvia Wainwright; 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, James, Sally, Virginia, Martha, Mary, Ceretha, Howard, Ruth, Daniel, and Keith.

      Homegoing services will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Searching Together Baptist Church (825 21st Street) with Rev. Willie Riley officiating. Interment and military honors will follow at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will begin at the church at 10:00 a.m.
