John “Nick” Garrett passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by loved ones on January 6th 2021 in Racine, Wisconsin at the age of 84.

Nick was born November 2nd 1936 in Holmes County, Mississippi to the late Dan and Sally (nee Brown) Garrett. From the time he was young, Nick found himself moving from the west coast to the east coast. In 1975, while visiting his sister in Racine, WI, he met the love of his life, Lula. Nick & Lula were united in marriage, February 14, 1976 and he became an instant father to Marcia and Lenny. As a family they adopted Letisha Lynn Garrett and fostered over 100 children.

In the year of 1976, Nick gave his life to the Lord, becoming a member of the Church of Christ, and worked faithfully as a servant. He enjoyed teaching bible class, singing, and spreading the gospel of Christ every chance he could. He instilled the WORD and taught his family to always put God first.

He leaves to cherish his memory; His wife, Lula Garrett; His daughter Marcia (Wendell) Gallimore of Milwaukee, WI; His son Lenny (Cassy) Johnson of Cedarburg, WI; His Godchildren Latonya (James) Stewart, Jada Barker, and Tyrek Stevenson; His 2 sisters, Ethel and Dora Garrett of Lexington, KY;  3 brothers,  Charlie Lee Garrett of Delaware,  Johnny Ray Booker of Racine, WI and Frank Garrett of Chicago, IL; 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Letisha Lynn Garrett; his parents Dan and Sally Garrett; 2 brothers CB Booker and Earl Willy Garrett and 1 Sister, Mary Lee Gray along with many family members and friends.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Darlene Giles, Tiffany Stevenson, Hospice Alliance and all their staff for the caring of Nick over the past months.
