John Edward
Schlitz
Sep 10, 1952 — Sep 19, 2026
John Edward Schlitz passed away on September 19, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
John was born on September 10, 1952, in Racine, Wisconsin, to the late Joseph A. Schlitz and Elaine K. (nee Tange) Schlitz. He was raised in Union Grove and later made his home in Sturtevant.
Following high school, John began working as an auto mechanic at his family’s business, Schlitz Used Cars. He dedicated his entire working career to the family business, remaining there until his retirement. John also proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserve for over 26 years.
John was a homebody at heart who enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved watching Jeopardy from the living room and rarely miss an episode. He also enjoyed playing cards and solving puzzles. His siblings especially treasured memories of playing poker together using nickels.
Above all, John was a family man and a loving brother who will be remembered for his kind and gentle heart. That kindness extended to animals as well. John had a special place in his heart for the stray cats that found their way to Schlitz Used Cars, often feeding and caring for his little friends.
John is survived by his siblings, Peter (Peggy) Schlitz, Susan Sorenson, James Schlitz, Joann (Paul) Langner, Michael (Kathleen) Schlitz, Anne (Steven) Wirkuty, Mary (Alan) Rench, Ted Schlitz, and Charles (Laura) Schlitz; sister-in-law, Heide Schlitz; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his siblings, Tom Schlitz, William (Loudella) Schlitz, and Robert Alan Schlitz; and brother-in-law, Robert Sorenson.
A special thank you to Dr. Jennifer Connley and Horizon Hospice for their around-the-clock care, compassion, and kindness shown to John and his family.
