John Wesley Woods age 87 peacefully transitioned into his heavenly home on August 2, 2020. He was born August 28,1932 in Pine Bluff Arkansas to the late Gertie Vanderbilt and Henry Woods. John was educated in the state of Arkansas and later served his country in the United States Army.

After moving to Chicago IL, John was united in marriage to Alberta Marble and13 children were born to this over 5-decade union. Affectionately known as Mr. Woods, Lil Woods and the man with a lot of kids, John raised his family in Block 2 of Altgeld Gardens. John passionately loved all of his children and his children loved him. He always enjoyed fishing as hobby and hanging out with his friends in Block 2 parking lot. John was always engaging in conversations, had a great sense of humor that kept everybody laughing and loved his automobiles….especially those Cadillac’s he had.

John will always be missed by family and friends. He’ll always be honored as a man that maintained his responsibilities, was extremely hard working, never missed a day on the job and always had money in his pocket. After relocating to Wisconsin, John was a member of Word of Life Church in Racine WI and took joy in being around his faith family until the time of his transition.

Testimonials

Thank you from Raymond Szymanski Family

I would like to thank Mike Langendorf, Bill Althaus and the rest of the staff for the wonderful celebration of the life for my father Raymond L. Szymanski who was a WWII veteran. I especially appreciate how much you really listen and the questions you asked regarding who my father was and what he was all about. Those details showed up in every part of the service from the flowers, the music, the thank you’s, pictures, obituary, outdoor military honors, etc. etc. My father would have been so grateful for the way you honored his life. I also received phone calls from family and friends indicating how beautiful the service was in every way. You and your staff definitely go above and beyond. You treat everyone like family and your compassion is so genuine. There should be more people in the world just like all of you. No words can express our gratitude for all you have done for myself, my father and our family. Thank you so very much and may the Lord bless you and yours! Sincerely Terri Carls and the Szymanski Family
