Racine – Surrounded by the love of his family, Jose Angel Charo Sr., passed away peacefully at All Saints hospital on Friday, June 6, 2014 at the age of 80 years. He was born in Cotulla, Texas on November 10, 1933, son of the late Alonzo and Maria (nee: Beltran) Charo.
As a young man, Jose moved to Racine where he met and married his beloved Alicia Saldivar on August 31, 1957. He found work at JI Case, where he was employed for 34 years until retiring in 1991. Jose enjoyed cooking for his family and friends, camping, fishing, sharing stories around a campfire; and following the Packers and Brewers. He especially enjoyed being with all of his grandchildren and great-grandsons. Jose is survived by his wife: Alicia Charo; their children: Dolores Bennett, Jose A. (Celia Schulz) Charo Jr., and Yvonne (Rick) Casillo; grandchildren: Ezequiel G. (Kelli) Leo III, A.J. Leo; Valerie Castillo, and Emily Castillo; two great-grandchildren: Geeon J.E. Leo and Gavin I. Leo, and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of his third great-grandchild. He is further survived by his brother: Samuel Charo; sisters: Juana Charo, Gloria (Jose) Vargas, and Irma Vargas; sister-in-law: Ofelia Charo; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was also preceded by his brothers: Rogelio Charo and Alonzo Charo; son-in-law: Dana J. Bennett; sister-in-law: Lucia Charo; father-in-law and mother-in-law; Celso and Maria Saldivar; and brother-in-law: Alvaro Saldivar Sr.
Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Friday, June 13, 2014 at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Visitations will be in the funeral on Thursday evening beginning at 5:00pm and closing with a prayer service at 6:30pm; and in the funeral on Friday morning beginning at 10:00am. Memorials in his name to the American Diabetes Association, or the COPD Association have been suggested.
